Mary Baca Haque grew up in the northern suburbs of Illinois with her nine brothers and sisters. She lived in Jalisco, Mexico, with Khalila (14), Khyaam (13), and her husband of fourteen years. Being in Mexico inspried her to write Madalynn the Monarch Butterfly and Her Quest to Michoacan. Read about it HERE. It is also in Spanish.
She now lives in Chicago and her children are now adults.
They spent a very diversified life which inspired Mary to write a series of stories that, “not only capture a young imagination but also teach of diversity and acceptance in the animal world, as we have in the human world.”
Her next book, entitled Tashi the Tibetan Antelope Makes New Friends, is one of the series which brings attention to the endangered animals on the Tibetan Plateau and teaches of acceptance and prejudice. She wishes to create, “books that introduce children to new worlds, just by the turn of a page.” She has also recently written and published the humorous essay, “Adventure with Husband.”
